Columbia Engineering's Summer High School Academic Program for Engineers (SHAPE) is a pre-college program for students with a curiosity for STEM: science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The program is not free but scholarships are available if you submit a full application by the priority deadline!!!
Each 3-week session (July 6 - July 24, 2026; July 27 - Aug 14, 2026) offers college-level, project-based courses in engineering taught by a diverse group of faculty at Columbia University. This program is also for those who will graduate in June 2026!

Exploration Program W/ Discovery Architecture
(FREE Externship!!!) (Open to 10th & 11th Graders) Amazing 3-Day Externship with this 2026 Discover Architecture offered by the Center for Architecture and the American Institute of Architects New York Chapter. This will take place during the public school mid-winter break Tuesday, February 17 through Friday, February 20, from 10 am - 3 pm daily. Students accepted into the program will spend Tuesday through Thursday at a local architecture firm gaining valuable, first-hand experience with the work of practicing architects, then have a chance to share their experiences at a concluding event at the Center for Architecture that Friday. No prior experience is necessary.

Studio Institute's Teen Apprenticeship Program (TAP)

Train as an apprentice with a Studio Institute artist instructor during weekly meetings held on Saturdays. Learn the fundamentals of art making and prepare to lead art classes for young learners. Focus on building your art-making skills, writing lesson plans, facilitating group conversations, and practicing teaching. Develop good work habits and understand expectations of the workplace. Upon successful completion of the spring apprenticeship, you would qualify for a paid internship teaching visual art to elementary school children in New York City summer camps.
Teens selected for this program must:
Be 16 years old or older by July 1, 2026
Have an interest in art
Have an interest in working with children
Commit to both the spring apprenticeship and the paid summer job

Apply today for this awesome summer program on the Albert Einstein College of Medicine campus and get a $2,500 stipend for completing the summer program. Interested in journalism!? Then this program is for you! Apply now to the PSJP for their free journalism and college preparation program based at Princeton University for high-achieving juniors from lower-income backgrounds who are interested in journalism. Students complete a hybrid journalism intensive during the summer after junior year and work one-on-one with a dedicated college adviser during their senior academic year.

ASTEP @ Bro/Sis Sol
(FREE!!!) (Enrichment Program for All Grades!!!)
ASTEP (After School Teen Enrichment Program) at The Brotherhood Sister Sol are looking for teens to come participate in their program. They operate 5-days-a-week from 3:00-7:00pm. Teens have access to a computer lab and Teen Lounge for study or chill time when not engaged in one or more of the following activities:
Hip Hop / Studio Class - a digital music production learning class that will teach teens how to create their own music.
Writer’s Collective - Youth hone their creative voice and poetry, spoken word and creative writing skills while examining social justice.
Bro/Sis Arts - Youth explore the performing arts (acting, writing, dramaturgy, producing, directing) to deepen their understanding of social justice issues.
Environmental Program - The Gaia Renaissance and Prove it to Gaia (PITG is an environmental leadership development project for youth ages 14-18. Work with PITG leads to paid work during the summer.

Research Science Institute (RSI) @ MIT
(FREE!!!) (Juniors Need to Apply!!!)
The Center for Excellence in Education is looking for applicants for their Research Science Institute program at MIT is a 6-week summer program ( 1-week of intensive STEM classes taught by accomplished professors and then followed by a 5-week research internship), where the students conduct individual research projects under the guidance of mentors who are experienced scientists and researchers. The program culminates in writing a research paper and giving a presentation at the RSI Symposium.

Green Apprenticeship Program (GAP) @ Brooklyn Botanic Garden
(PAID!!!) (9th - 12th Graders) The Garden Apprentice Program (GAP) at Brooklyn Botanic Garden is a great way for teens to learn about urban agriculture and develop their professional skills. Apprentices can work their way up through the four-tier program. Apprentices make a nine-month commitment to GAP, from March to November. Programming takes place once or twice a week during the spring and fall sessions, and four days a week in the summer. All apprentices can earn a reimbursement check at the end of the GAP year. The reimbursement check is based on the Tier that the apprentice is in and can range from $600 - $800 or a paid staff member of $17 / hour.

Specialize in a filmmaking discipline and create portfolio pieces for college and career success.
